Overview
OnSite's Specialist Pipeline Inspection division, based at our Worksop operations centre, is able to provide this very specialised method of pipeline inspection where a pipeline, culvert or structure is permanently either fully or semi-surcharged.
Where such conditions are encountered, often in larger more strategically important sewers, it is often physically impossible to remove or reduce flows to a level more suited to a standard CCTV inspection and even if it were possible to remove flows by overpumping, for instance, the cost, both financially and environmentally is often prohibitive.
Where a pipeline, culvert or structure is fully surcharged, the sonar scanner can be utilised to obtain 360° profile images of the internal surface every 0.1m of linear travel. The scanner, which is around 350mm long and 70mm in diameter, can be mounted on either a crawler, skid or float dependent upon the physical characteristics of the pipeline to be inspected.
We have purpose built siphon floats designed to run along the soffit of an inverted syphon, allowing the sonar scanner to be suspended beneath and, therefore, unaffected by any silt or debris that may exist in the siphon invert.
Where semi-surcharged conditions exist and if the diameter is sufficient, our team will use a combined method of inspection (often generically referred to as TISCIT – Totally Integrated Sonar & Camera Inspection Technique) using a Pan, Tilt & Zoom camera to obtain video images above the waterline along with the sonar scanner to provide profiles of the internal surface beneath. This combination of equipment can be either crawler or float mounted dependent on pipeline diameter and flow depth.
Back to topSurvey Units
Our CCTV Inspection vehicles are purpose built and are replaced every 4 years ensuring reliability of service to our clients. All onboard equipment is powered by the vehicle engine. Other than surveying equipment, every survey unit carries a wide range of essential Health & Safety equipment for safe confined space entry. Visit Health and Safety for more details.
Because of the additional equipment required to undertake such complex inspections, it is often necessary to provide a second support vehicle to prevent overloading of the primary inspection unit.
Team Training
OnSite provides a comprehensive package of training for all site personnel. Visit Training for more details.
Reporting
Reports are generated, on site to international sewer defect coding standards, using the industry leading Wincan data capture software with video recorded to DVD or hard disk in MPEG 1, MPEG 2 or MPEG 4 formats.
Digital sonar images are provided also ( one image every 0.1m of forward travel – i.e. 100m inspection provides around 1000 .img files which can be viewed using the free issue 'Pipeview' software). The Pipeview software also provides in built tools providing measurement features that can be applied by the Client to the image at his/her desktop PC.
Survey data is subject to OnSite's rigorous quality control procedures prior to final report compilation before dispatch to our client.
