OnSite's Civils team repair troublesome aqueduct
OnSite was recently contacted by British Waterways to help resolve a long-standing problem with a leaking grade 2 listed aqueduct in Stockport, Greater Manchester.
The leaks had been causing problems for the local residents, particularly during the winter months, and several unsuccessful attempts had been made to seal the leaks over the last 10 years.

To combat the problem, British Waterways brought in the additional resources of OnSite to de-water the section of canal in order to investigate potential causes and attempt the repairs.
OnSite's team dammed off the canal using their portable dam system, Portadam. This enabled them to investigate the canal bed and abutment walls and find the sources of the leaks. Using a combination of grouting and clay placement the leaks were successfully sealed.
Finally, the team grouted and pointed up the badly affected areas of wall below using lime mortar, restoring the aesthetic of the historic aqueduct.
OnSite's Civil Engineering Manager, Brian Perkins, said "This is a great example of how OnSite can provide a one-stop solution - using the Portadam to enable us to diagnose the problem, and the Civils team to repair the leaks effectively."
