The existing box culvert has a history of blocking due to the inflow of silt. In this case the culvert had blocked to 80% of its normal capacity and OnSite were asked to clear away all silt and debris.

The contract was carried out in conjunction with the Environment Agency and British Waterways. A confined space entry team was employed to go in and remove the material. The silt was fed to a suction tube that fed OnSite’s tanker, the Eurovac. When the tanker was full it decanted the water back into the stream and the silt was taken to a nearby storage facility to dry further.

The dried material was then transferred to the local landfill site.

In difficult conditions OnSite removed 120t of silt in 6 days. The contract also included the re-grading of a stream and clearing an area of stream of rubbish and vegetation.
